THE LEATHER
The base material for our bags consists of hides from Breton cattle. Base material from colder regions is particularly well-suited for the production of authentic leather. The main reason for this is that there are fewer insects there, and every insect bite leaves a visible mark on the hide. Because the tanning process used preserves the surface in its natural structure, there are fewer blemishes and thus a more uniform surface.
The tanning process spans a period of 28-32 days and takes place in various oak drums. A specific process occurs in each drum. After each process, the hides are removed by hand, inspected, and moved to the next process step. During the manufacturing process, the hides are handled up to 72 times.
The tanning process is carried out using plant-based (vegetable) substances. These substances are by-products of forestry. These include, for example, tree bark and mimosa. These substances are completely harmless, and you could even eat them. I tried a little bit of the powder shown in the picture. The taste is bitter and reminiscent of a very strongly roasted coffee bean. However, I refrained from consuming larger quantities.
After the tanning process, the individual hides are dried. To do this, they are pressed out individually and subsequently dyed with the corresponding aniline. In the final process step, the now-dyed hides are hung up in a special drying room. Once completely dry, the hides can be processed into the final product.
Our leather supplier is a second-generation business that has dedicated itself to maintaining this old production method. It is certified and belongs to the “Vera Pelle Italiana conciata al Vegetale” association. This ensures that the tanning process is free of chromium, pentachlorophenol, and benzidine additives.
THE PRODUCTION
The finished tanned leather is then further processed into the high-quality final product in an Italian workshop. The selected lining materials are all 100% cotton and are therefore a perfect complement to the soft leather. The workshop is managed by the second generation, the founder’s son and daughter. A focus of the company is on the production of travel luggage. Sewing large pieces of leather with long seams perfectly together requires a lot of experience and great skill, which has been at home here for over 50 years. The company employs about 25 people, many of whom have been employed there for many years. If you watch them at work , you can easily see that they work with passion and dedication. You can only achieve something like this if the framework conditions in a company are right.

We hope that you share the passion with which our products were produced with us. Our bags acquire their own character over time and are loyal companions for generations . Should a bag be damaged or, for example, a strap be lost, this is annoying, but we will take care of it and, if possible, repair the damage or obtain a replacement for you.
